Joe Lankford was offered the opportunity to access some well-aged vintage tobaccos that were sitting in a warehouse, undiscovered for years. Rather than creating a whole new blend, Joe decided to use them to replace tobaccos in Plum Pudding.     I had been wanting to try Plum Pudding for some time but never got around to it yesterday. My expectations were high based on reviews and I expected a very complex and unique smoke but what I found was anything but that. At the first puff and last puff all I got was Latakia. Fortunately, I like Latakia very much but at 30 dollars for a small 4 ounce cake I felt that I had been more than cheated - I felt positively ripped off and have concluded I will never buy this again. If someone is going to try to charge me 30.00 dollars for a small 4 ounce block they better deliver and the delivery was merely good, not great. I suppose it is like going to a fine restaurant and asking for the best steak the house has and being told it is sixty dollars and finding one could have gone to the store and gotten the same steak for 18 dollars to cook on ones own grill. Plum Pudding doesn't even taste of plum which leaves me scratching my head about the name. This blend is basically the old Latakia we were smoking in the period some 20 years ago or more and nothing more. It buries the Perique and cavendish for the most part and plays that note steadly through the smoke. It does not burn very well and I had to relight about seven times to finish a bowl. What I did find to it's credit is this Latakia blends well with other things so it can be used to add weight with a weak mixture. I suppose overall I would say the blend itself is a four star but because of the cost, I am knocking my rating down to a three and say that my overall experience was one of disappointment for such a pricey offering and I will not be buying it again. However, if you love old spicey Latakia and a dark smoke and have money to burn, this might be just the blend you are looking for.

    This is the first tobacco that I have given a perfect score, its simply that good. The balance between every component is perfectly harmonised and the special reserve somehow improves on perfection with a slightly aged and more mellow profile even with a new tin. If you like Bulkans, or even if you dont, give this one a try; its worth the hype.
