One of those innovations was his first pipe, the Windshield Pipe. The pipe proved popular with the new motorist clientele, and more items followed. Shortly after, Mr. Dunhill opened his first tobacco shop. Unhappy with the quality of the pipes available for sale, Alfred Dunhill set out to make the best pipes available anywhere, that would smoke beautifully, would last a lifetime, and with a price that reflected this quality of craftsmanship. WWI proved beneficial to the Dunhill company as Alfred donated his pipes to officers serving the Allied forces, which helped the "White Spot" become known throughout the world. It was after the war that Dunhill "discovered" sandblasting. More finishes, shapes, and the wonderful shape chart was implemented to help customers identify and choose a pipe to suit them. Dunhill has maintained its original mission statement and continues to produce some of the highest quality smoking instruments and accessories in the world.
