One of the greatest joys of the tobacco pipe hobby is the chase—the endless pursuit of the perfect smoke. Though a relatively new practice in the scope of pipe tobacco history, “cellaring” has become a cornerstone of the pipe smoker’s exploration—the aging of already great blends into a refined maturation that only time can impart. There are ways some try to simulate aging to get the effects without the wait. We hear of the hacks to expedite the process through all kinds of DIY methods. Such workarounds certainly speak to the resourcefulness and ingenuity of the pipe smoker, but when it comes to the refined, dynamic delight of an aged blend, we know there is no true substitute for time itself.
